Bucktown Real Estate
Popular lore has it that Bucktown got its name from the Polish immigrants who raised goats (bucks) in the area around the 1830s. Real estate in Bucktown has made huge leaps from goat pastures into one of the hippest neighborhoods in Chicago.
The turn around started in the 1990s when artists began to move into what was at that time a mostly Hispanic neighborhood. Some Bucktown real estate developers began to convert old buildings into loft space and new low rise condominiums. This started the process of wide spread gentrification and lead to many cottage homes to be torn down and replaced with mini-mansions.
The Bucktown artists are now pretty much gone and replaced with downtown professionals. The Damen Avenue business district is fashionable boutiques, hot restaurants and trendy bars. Bucktown is just north of Wicker Park and shares the North-Damen-Milwaukee Ave disctricts which still contains some of the remains of what once was an edgier neighborhood.
